2. The paraffinic oil begins to penetrate immediately. The oil holds the UV barrier and all the resins, pigments and chemicals in place. The coating is very dark in color upon application. Time and heat from the sun begin the job of helping the oil penetrate further into the wood. Penetration may take 3 days to 3 months, with the color lightening as the oil is absorbed.

3. The penetrating oil, carrying the protectants and resins, seeps into and around weathered openings in the wood cells. This fills in old surface cracks and checks. Resins bond to and seal the surface openings, leaving no space for water or organic growths to enter the wood.
