We recommend that you wait approximately 10-12 months before you preserve your new wood roof. This “waiting period” is very important to allow the new wood time to weather and effectively absorb the protective treatment. Preservation to wood roofs immediately after installation does not allow sufficient penetration of the treatment and a “blotchy” outcome can be the result in as short as two to three years. There are three great reasons to consider preservation early in your roofs life.
-
Save on the cleaning stage: Before the wood roof reaches eighteen months of age a topical treatment can be applied to prepare the wood exposure for preservation. The more extensive “power clean” is not necessary for wood roofs this young.
-
Save on the cost of the treatment: There is less penetration of the product at this “early stage” and the savings can be passed on.
-
Protect your cedar roof in its best condition: Lets face it, about the only thing that gets better with age is a bottle of wine.
